Field Day 2012 playlist

Despite the inevitable rain, toilet queues and frustrating clashes, Field Day 2012 promises to be the best yet. Besides, you wouldn't get clash-fury if the line-up wasn't as top draw as it is this year. Although choosing between Grimes, Chairlift and Metronomy among others at about 7 is going to be mind-meltingly impossible. Perhaps this Field Day timeline playlist below will help you make that call.

50 Albums of 2011 // 40 - 31

The second installment. Not that it was planned that way, but this second set of ten also have some of our favourite videos of the year; from Dominant Legs' lesson in joy-seeking, through Metronomy's paper bird to Ganglians' psych-dystopia. Plus, we had to include two from Shabazz Palaces' awesomely titled/sounding record. Enjoy, with 30 to 21 to come tomorrow.

31. Dominant Legs - 'Invitation'

32. James Blake - 'James Blake'

33. Metronomy - 'The English Riviera'

34. Girls Names - 'Dead To Me'

Girls Names // Bury Me

35. Shabazz Palaces - 'Black Up'

Shabazz Palaces // Swerve... the reeping of all that is worthwhile (noir not withstanding)
Shabazz Palaces // An echo from the hosts that profess infinitum

36. Nicholas Jaar - 'Space Is Only Noise'

Nicholas Jaar // Too Many Kids Finding Rain in the Dust

37. Ganglians - 'Still Living'

Django Django // Default

Is 2012 going to be Django Django's year? The BBC don't seem to think so given their recent Sound of 2012 long-list. We however, hope they're wrong.

The band's odd-pop shone at The Royal Albert Hall in support of Metronomy back in October, with Default taking the lead from their most prominent early release WOR, adding some DEVO jerkiness and embedding itself in your mind's ear.

Take a listen below, and if you like that, we'd also recommend Waveforms available through their Soundcloud.

Metronomy // She Wants

Jul & Mat, the French video making wizards, have followed up earlier Metronomy and We Have Band collaborations with this supremely intricate vid for the former's single She Wants. The single has been knocking about for a while but is charming, restrained electro, with a classic Metronomy bassline yet added harmonies and warmer production, indicating next month's release of The English Riviera could be pretty special.

We Have Band // Divisive

Having worked their mesmerising effect with paint on Metronomy's On The Motorway, France's Jul&Mat have turned to similarly London based electro/glitch-poppers We Have Band for their next directorial outing. If you can tear your eyes from video and concentrate on the track, Divisive is perhaps the band's finest track to date, adopting previous single Honeytrap's insistent baseline and power-chorus while adding a shroud of synths reminiscent of DFA's roster. It's compelling stuff and makes the brow sweat ever more for their forthcoming debut LP WHP, out April 5th.

See them in their all their fleshy beauty at London's Kings College on April 8th before they flit off to Europe.
